Beta-sitosterol is a plant-derived substance (a phytosterol) that’s structurally similar to cholesterol. It’s found naturally in nuts, seeds, vegetable oils, whole grains, fruits, and some legumes. Because of that similarity, it can partly block the absorption of dietary cholesterol in the gut.
